There are a lot of things that will ruin your manicure. If you go to the trouble and expense of having your nails done or doing them yourself, you want your manicure to last. It’s very frustrating to have a nail chip or break not long after a manicure. These’re things that will ruin your manicure that you want to avoid.

1. Scrubbing the Bathroom

Scrubbing the bathroom is one of the things that will ruin your manicure. The combination of the chemicals in bathroom cleaners and the scrubbing is a recipe for manicure disaster. Try to clean your bathroom before your manicure or have someone else handle the chore. I’ve ruined many a manicure by cleaning my bathroom. I finally learned to take care of that before I do my nails.

Nails can be very handy to use as a tool. Unfortunately this is terrible on your manicure. Don’t give in to the temptation to use your nails for things you shouldn’t. Opening things with your nails, prying things apart and scraping things are all manicure killers. It can take a bit longer to get things done without using your nails but it’s worth it to save your manicure.

3. Washing Dishes

Having your hands in water a lot is hard on your manicure. Washing dishes is especially hard on them. This is probably because they’re soaking in soapy water that can cause your nail polish to weaken and chip. Use your dishwasher instead. If you have to wash your dishes by hand, wear gloves to protect your nails.

4. Hairspray

Hairspray is hard on your manicure. It can actually cause the nail polish to come off if enough of it gets on your nails. You can blame the alcohol content in hairspray for that. Try to keep your other hand out of the way when you’re spraying your hair. Use a comb to hold your hair in place while you spray instead. Your manicure will last a lot longer without hairspray hitting it.

It’s much easier to keep a manicure in perfect condition in the summer. In the fall and winter the air is both cold and dry, which are the opposite of most summer conditions. As you probably already know, your hands can take a hit from the fall and winter air. It also affects your nails. You may not notice it as much as you do chapped hands but your nails can become dry and brittle, which makes your manicure more likely to chip.

Polishing your nails back to back can be very hard on them. Some women have more difficulty with this than others. It’s best to give your nails a week or at least a few days in between manicures. In the meantime, you can do some things to promote healthy nails, such as using cuticle cream or applying a strengthening nail serum to your nails. It helps your nails to be strong and healthy whenever you paint them again.
