1

Prep Your Nails

Before learning how to get marble nails and whipping out the nail polishes to start painting away, clip and file your nails first. Then, wash your hands thoroughly.

2

Coat Your Nails with an Opaque Nail Polish

After prepping your nails, paint them with a light colored nail polish, like white, off-white or gray. Make sure the nail polish is completely dry before moving onto the next step.

3

Gather the Materials

You don't need to go out and purchase any new products. All you need is a bowl of lukewarm water, a toothpick and two nail polishes. Make sure that the water is not too hot or too cold because the pattern may not adhere well to your nails.

4

Pick the Right Polish

The two nail polish colors should also be contrasting. Plus, don’t use a full glitter nail polish; it won’t work well with this technique. Although, feel free to use a nail polish with some glitter. It just can't be a glitter-only polish.

Note: You can use more than two colors if you so desire!

5

Create the Pattern

Place one drop of each nail polish into the bowl of liquid. Then, use the toothpick to draw a design in the mixture. Once you have your desired pattern, slowly place your nail into the water. Wait five seconds and then pull your finger out gently.

Repeat Step #5

Repeat the previous step until all of your nails are covered. If you want a different design on each nail, use a different bowl of water each time and just draw in a different pattern. I recommend either alternating the design every nail, every other nail or only on your ring fingers.

7

Clean up

Also, for less of a mess, place tape around the areas of your finger that you don’t want to get the nail polish on. The tape creates a nice barrier! If you still have unwanted polish hanging around the edges of your nails, take a Q-Tip soaked in nail polish remover and use it to remove any leftover polish. Then, top with a clear nail polish and you're all finished!

Side note: An alternate route to getting marble nails would be to use plastic wrap. Repeat steps one and two listed above, then paint a different color nail polish on top of your opaque nail color. Before the second color dries, pat your nails with a crumpled up piece of plastic wrap. It creates a nice marble effect! Clean up your nails using the technique I outlined in the seventh step and you’re good to go!

I like the technique with the water the best! I like the results better, but either of these two techniques will work perfectly fine! I recommend trying both of these techniques and seeing which one you like the best! Will you be trying this technique? Or is this nail trend not for you? Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

I've tried water marbling before but my nail polishes didn't spread out or spread out all over the place in the water. How do I know which nail polish will work and does it depend on the nail polish or am I just doing something wrong?

What a great tip! Thanks for sharing and reading!

This really does work!

Wow that's really cool

I tried marble nails a couple times but it never worked for me. I guess you have to have a certain type of nail polish for it to dissolve right in water. anyone knows which ones work best?

I actually found that both metallics and glitter polishes don't spread out properly in the water. Any kind of shimmer polish is difficult when doing this technique. You might notice that majority of pics posted of marble nails are exclusive opaque color polishes.

Love it

A* try

I'm going to try this an will let u know how it goes when I do!
